In this regard, a group of school nurses have been trained on how to access children based on the severity of their health condition.

The training programme also included sessions on how to detect food allergy as well as medicines allowed to be used at school clinics.

Nurses were also taught how to do cardiopulmonary resuscitation, commonly known as CPR, an emergency procedure performed on a person who suffers a cardiac arrest.

The training programme is part of a plan to develop health programmes at schools and was held during the summer holidays.

Afrah Mosa, Director, Services and School Programmes at the Ministry of Public Health, said, 'This training course is part of the school health programme for the development of nursing skills.

'It was held as part of the role the PHCC plays in health education against all diseases and epidemics that challenge the community, especially young people and school students.

'The PHCC is seeking through such training courses to increase efficiency and skills of nursing staff at schools, as they play a big role in achieving the corporation";s vision and mission that aim at improving the health and well-being of the individuals and society,” Mosa added.
