UAE ambassador opens Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital in Shebaa, Lebanon

BEIRUT, 2nd September 2016 (WAM) - UAE Ambassador to Beirut Hamad Saeed Sultan Al Shamsi has officially opened the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Hospital in the Lebanese city of Shebaa.

Following the opening, Al Shamsi made a statement in which he conveyed the UAE leadership's greetings and thanked Lebanese Health Minister Wael Abu Faour and all those who contributed to see this project implemented after 8 years.

Al Shamsi announced an additional support of US$ 10 million by the UAE to fund operation of the hospital, as agreed with the Lebanese Ministry of Health.

The opening also coincided with laying of the foundation stone for the US$ 4 million Al Atibaa Hospital. The project will be completed in a one year time and will offer healthcare services to all districts in South of Lebanon.

Al Shamsi said the hospital is one of many projects undertaken by the UAE in Lebanon at a total cost of over US$ 70 million, including the de-mining project in the South.

"UAE's humanitarian policy is to provide assistance to those in need everywhere. Today, we have fulfilled our promise with the hospital opening and we will continue to help Lebanon and its people," Al Shamsi stated.

Chairman of the Al-Makassed Philanthropic Islamic Association (MPIA), Amine Daouk, thanked the UAE and the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for entrusting the Association to manage the hospital.

Head of Al Arkoub Municipalities Federation and Mayor of Shebaa Mohammed Saab described the opening of the hospital as a prelude to a new era of hope and giving, thanks to the unlimited support given by the UAE's wise leadership.

Director of the Attache of the Humanitarian and Developmental Affairs at the UAE embassy in Beirut Mussalam Al Mansouri said the UAE attach great importance to humanitarian assistance, emanating from the principles of giving, laid by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and perpetuated by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Ambassador Al Shamsi issued directives to form a committee to ensure operation of the hospital.

The opening ceremony was attended by the former Lebanese Minister Khalid Qabbani, who heads MPIA's Board of Trustees, heads of municipalities and citizens.
