A'soud Global School (AGS) Muscat was inaugurated in Seeb on Wednesday. The inauguration was held under the auspices of H E Dr Rawiyah bint Saud al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education, in the presence of government and corporate dignitaries.

AGS Muscat is a pioneering project of English Education Management Company (EEMC), which is a joint venture of Al Najah Education and Al Tamman Holding.

Speaking to Muscat Daily, Himansu Mohapatra, general manager of Al Tamman Holding, a Muscat Overseas Group company, said, 'A true international school, AGS is starting its first academic year on September 4 with 200 students of 40 different nationalities and 34 staff.'

In addition to the core British curriculum, the school, which is affiliated to the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) will offer Arabic and Islamic studies classes along with various other subjects and languages. Through collaborations with Drama Scene, Dubai, and Brooklyn Melodies Music Center, Dubai, AGS brings international certifications in music, drama and sports.

About the competition AGS may face from other international schools in Muscat, Mohapatra said, 'Many international schools are there in Oman, but at AGS our focus is on the quality of education. We have teachers who have gained experience working in different places in the world. Also, we offer a globally accredited curriculum.'

Talking about investment in education and its impact on the economy of a country, he said, 'Our goal is not just to make money. This is not the only school we are planning. We'll build schools in Duqm and Salalah. Investing in education benefits the economy of a country. Economic progress depends mainly on the quality of education that is offered in a country.'

He added, 'We have buses with high safety standards, with cameras installed. Parents can learn through SMS their children's time of arrival and exit from the school.

'AGS will have classes from grades 1-7 for this year. We plan to increase grades. We accept students of any nationality. The director of the school will organise regular parent-teacher meetings for the benefit of the students.

'We will always strive to provide high-quality education and focus on constantly developing skills of teachers.'
