New Book 'Dark Awakening' Challenges Conventional Thinking

(MENAFNEditorial) World Wide Web – 8-31-2016 The new novel ''Dark Awakening” by first-time author Karlene Cameron is challenging readers through a seductive tale that weaves together unconventional ideas of politics and religion while forcing readers to examine their own ideals, values and humanity.

Dark Awakening is the story of Caitriona Sinclair, tough and determined but also deeply sensitive and troubled. She has a unique ‘gift"; of strange visions that she";s spent her life trying to ignore. She suddenly finds herself in a world two hundred years in the future where the very fact that she is different is celebrated by one faction but seen as a dangerous threat to the other. Anchored on the idea of a one-world government, population control and genetic engineering, it would appear leaders have created a perfectly behaved, genetically ideal society. But not everyone embraces the New World Order";s tyrannical and oppressive rule. Abducting the reckless and magically-gifted Caitriona Sinclair, Commander Duncan MacKinnon, leader of the Templar rebellion, soon finds himself in a dangerous game of hide and seek to keep Caitriona safe and out of the Order";s clutches before the Templars are ready to openly defend themselves against the Order";s savage attack.

Through it all, Caitriona and Duncan fall in a desperate and deep love, struggling not to give in to their passions. But with Caitriona bound to another, her ‘handler"; Nicolas, and Duncan bound to his oath to protect and free his people, love, it seems, cannot always conquer all.

Dark Awakening, at its heart, is a love story that spans time; where the complexities of love become apparent, and traditional notions of politics and religion are challenged. Much like the way conspiracy theories grip people and force them to reexamine beliefs, the story of Caitriona Sinclair and Duncan MacKinnon forces readers to do the same.

The genesis of the story comes from Cameron";s curiosity of conspiracy theories and religion, and from her love of romance novels. ''I wanted to write a romance where the characters are flawed, where the complexities of love become apparent, and traditional notions are challenged. I wanted to ask provocative questions: What if a covert organization rises and takes hold of mass consciousness? What if what we";ve been taught about religion is not entirely true?” said Cameron.

Dark Awakening explores these questions, giving the reader a fresh look at old ideas, wrapped in a romantic love story that spans time. The first in a trilogy—Dark Gathering (Book 2), and Dark Storm (Book 3)—Cameron takes readers on a journey they won";t soon forget. The ending won";t disappoint.

This is the first book for Karlene Cameron who lives in the Pacific Northwest where she practices and teaches marketing. Karlene has written several articles for national publications includingAppaloosa Journal, Performance Horsemagazine and several newspapers. When not writing, Karlene can be found plunking away at the piano, rafting the white water of the Wenatchee River, or enjoying a good cup of coffee (or wine) depending on the hour. Karlene has set into motion her next book in the Dark World series, titled, Dark Gathering.
