Trump meets Mexican Pres. before immigration speech

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Aug 31 (KUNA) -- Despite their immense criticisms of each other's policies, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump met with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Wednesday, hours before the candidate is set to give a major speech on immigration.

One of Trump's central campaign themes has been his proposal to build a wall across the US' southern border that Mexico "will pay for." He has also proposed plans to immediately deport all illegal immigrants that he labeled many to be "thugs and rapists." "Who pays for the wall? We didn't discuss that," Trump said after their meeting. "We did discuss the wall. We didn't discuss payment of the wall. That'll be for a later date." In remarks alongside Trump, Nieto affirmed that the two had a constructive exchange even though we "might not agree on everything." Nieto, who received criticism from his citizens and Mexican politicians for inviting Trump to his country said, "Mexicans have felt offended in what (Trump) has said... The intention is to meet with both candidates so we can build together." There have been murmurs for the past week that Trump might alter his immigration platform that has been a focal point for his constituents' support. If there is going to be a major change, it should be announced in a speech he is set to give later tonight.

This is Trump's first visit with a world leader since gaining the Republican nomination. (end) ak.hb
