Things All Freshmen at Moroccan University Need to Know

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) As high school comes to an end, students start to think and overthink a lot about their future. Confusion and fear from the unknown begins to build up, especially when it comes to entering Moroccan universities, due to the lack of knowledge about university life.

Here are several pieces of advice that you should know about university life in Morocco:

1 – Language (French): If you are a literature student, then you do not have to worry about language. If not, you must know at least the basics of French in order to keep up with your peers. Most of the courses in the universities are delivered in French. However, there is nothing to worry about. There are many translation dictionaries that vary depending on your field of study that you can rely on. Also, it's never too late to take courses to polish up your French before school starts.

2 – Attendance: In university, you will be given ultimate freedom. You are free to choose to attend class or not. However, this freedom is considered a double-edged sword that you must figure out how to manage it and avoid abusing it, because once you start skipping classes you will find it much hard to catch up later.

3 – Schedule: Managing your time is a must, as well as keeping everything on track. It is very important to stay up to date with your lessons and avoid procrastination. If you ever miss any lessons, you can usually use the handout sheets for extra explanation.

4 – Researching: Not all the information you wish to gather will be given within one or two hours. Although the professor introduces the lesson and highlights the most important chapters, he or she may not explain the details of each lesson. Gathering all the important information will be up to you to find through text books, the university library or the internet.

5 – Studying: The key to passing your exams is to stay up to date with your lessons, rather than studying only before your exams. When studying for finals, it is preferable to study with a group of friends, so that you can all share information and learn from each other's mistakes. Also, you shouldn't limit yourself to what is written on your notebook. Borrowing a graduate's books or checking old exams and programs would be very helpful.

6 – Procrastinating: It's more than just delaying or postponing your work until tomorrow. Procrastinating can make you lose your precious time, and that can be followed by guilt. It could also make you blow upcoming opportunities and push you back from reaching your goals. Since it is linked to over-stressing and anxiety, procrastinating can lead to making poor choices, which will affect your health in a negative way.

7 – Exams retakes (rattrapage): If you fail on the first try (also known as the normal session's exams), you get to take another exam in the same subject. A lot of students stress when they hear the word, 'retake,' mainly due to the fear of failing for the second time. The solution, in this case, is to look at it from a different angle: consider the first exam as a trial only, and the retake exam as a second chance to outdo yourself.

8 – Friendships: Putting aside all the studying hacks, one of the main things that a student MUST consider and pay attention to while attending the university is a circle of friends. You must know your circle and the people you think are trustworthy. As cliché as it sounds, befriend those who will inspire you to be your best self and try to help you; not the ones who try to knock you down and lead you down the wrong path.

All in all, of course 'may the odds be in your favor.'
