16 more airstrikes target IS in Syria, Iraq

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, Aug 30 (KUNA) -- The US-led coalition against the so-called Islamic State (IS) launched 16 airstrikes targeting the group in Syria and Iraq Monday, the Combined Joint Task Force -Operation Inherent Resolve (CJTF-OIR) said in its daily report.

In Syria, nine airstrikes hit IS facilities near Abu Kamal, Ar Raqqah, Manbij, and Palmyra, the report showed.

Meanwhile in Iraq, seven strikes hit IS facilities near Albu Hayat, Mosul, Ramadi, Sultan Abdallah, and Tal Afar, the report showed.

CJTF-OIR maintained that one airstrike count "means one or more kinetic events that occur in roughly the same geographic location to produce a single, sometimes cumulative effect for that location." However, it can also mean a single aircraft launched a single missile, the report noted. (end) ak.hb
