Oman- MoHE unveils scholarships for postgraduate studies

The Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE) has unveiled the number of scholarships for post graduate studies. Twenty-seven applicants have met the requirements for MA and 191 for PhDs, with 102 qualifying for medical specialties through the National Programme for Post Graduate Studies.

Hamad bin Hamoud al Balushi, director general of scholarships and chairman of the Sorting Out Committee was quoted as saying in a press release that those who met requirements would be notified through SMS by the Higher Education Admission Centre.

He added that the number of those registered in the programme through the e-system stood at 2,500 of which 1,119 fulfil the requirements and 354 did not upload the required documents. As many as 267 students applied for medical courses of which 37 failed to submit their documents. Only 1,114 initially registered but did not complete other procedures. Hilal Hamed al Azki, director of postgraduate studies department at MoHE, said registrations for the programme was open from February 21 to July 16.

Azki added that the national programme has allocated 50 medical scholarships as there is a need for this specialisation in Oman. The Ministry for Higher Education said this year that new specialties have been added such as psychological rehabilitation, meteorology, climate science, atmospheric sciences, architecture, natural landscapes planning, fire safety, fire and explosion engineering, aquatic biology and museum studies.
