I lived in a Moroccan Town That Had No Electricity: Najat Vallaud-Belkacem

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) Although now a prominent figure in France, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, France's Minister of Education, has never forgotten her Moroccan origins.
In an interview with Le Monde, Belkacem reminisced about her childhood in Beni Chicker, a small village located in the north of Morocco, where Belkacem has lived for four years just before moving to France.
During the interview, Belkacem focused on her educational journey and her childhood memories. She said she was fortunate to have had the chance to study and become a French official. 'I have many good and bad memories and it is difficult to pick one to talk about,' she said, 'I lived for four years in Morocco and I noticed that my cousins did not go to school, especially the girls.' Belkacem added that she had lived in a village where there are only 300-400 inhabitants and their homes did not have any electricity. The 38-year-old minister said that in her childhood village they seldom saw cars. She added that at the age of four she moved to France, and she did not even know the French language.
