New Zealand Fashion Week Features Burkini

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) The burkini was banned in 30 French cities, but the bathing wear for the modest Muslimah was featured at the New Zealand Fashion Week.

Auckland-based swimwear designer Carena West jumped into the controversial swimwear and made her design the talk of the show.

West said that 'wearing what you want to wear is a personal choice.'

'By France banning a particular item of clothing it makes a statement on their side as well. It's ironic they're trying to force someone to not wear something that they think they're being forced to wear. It seems like a big roundabout.'

Suddenly, the black and white floral print burkini model stepped on to the catwalk and took the audience by surprise, said Assia Benmedjdoub, the editor of Australian fashion magazine Ragtrader, in RNZ.

The 30-year-old designer said the burkini ban violated human rights.

'The prohibition imposed have taken the liberty to choose and human rights, by not allowing people to choose what they want to wear,' said Carena in Viva.co.id.
