GENEVA, 24th August, 2016 (WAM) --- The Arab Federation for Human Rights has strongly condemned the crimes being committed by the Yemeni rebel Houthi group and militants loyal to the now-ousted president Ali Abdullah Saleh against civilians in Yemen and Saudi border areas, and called upon the international community to bring perpetrators to justice.

In a statement, the federation, which is an umbrella for more than 80 Arab and international civil society and rights organisations, institutions and centres, noted that the Houthi-Saleh rebels' deliberate targeting of Yemeni and Saudi civilians in border areas, such as Najran, constitute a stark aggression against international law and amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity and demanded that the perpetrators, the Houthi-Slaeh rebels, be brought to justice at the International Criminal Court.

The federation said that it has documented incidents in which more than 16 schools were targeted by various military projectiles killing 3 boys and injuring three 3 girls.

All violations by the Houthi-Saleh rebel militias deliberately target residential and civilians areas including educational and health facilities and markets.

Violations by the rebels in Yemen led to the death of around 40 civilians including women and children, injured more than 300 others and affected some 150 families, the statement said.

The Geneva-based Arab human rights organisation called the international community to take swift action to protect civilians in Yemen and Saudi border areas, work towards the immediate implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2216, shoulder its responsibility for enforcing peace and security in conflict zones across the region and back the efforts of the Yemeni legitimate government to empower it to re-build the state, revive democracy and restore normal constitutional life to the country.

The federation also stressed the need for the United Nations and the Security Council to put an end to their inaction and failure to carry out their duty of protecting civilians across Yemen and its border with Saudi Arabia.
