Hanoi, Dhu-AlQa'dah 21, 1437, August 24, 2016, SPA -- At least seven miners were killed in a landslide at a
gold mine in northern Vietnam after a typhoon swept through the area,
authorities said Wednesday, while rescue efforts for the missing continued, according to dpa.
The incident occurred early Saturday, when flash floods triggered by Typhoon Dianmu set off a landslide at Ma Sa Phin gold mine in Lao Cai province, Nguyen Chinh Cuong, of the local natural disaster prevention and control committee, told dpa.
Miners who were sleeping in camps at the foot of the mountain were also swept away by the flash flood, Tuoi Tre reported.
It was unclear how many were missing but local residents said they had seen scores of bodies carried away.
