Two Sharjah roads to be closed for maintenance

"Signboards have also been installed to guide the truck drivers to the alternative road."

The Roads and Transport Authority is to partially close down the arterial Dhaid-Madam truck road and the Fifth Intersection on the Sharjah-Dhaid road for critical maintenance works.

Official sources told Khaleej Times late on Sunday that they have started the traffic diversions on the major intersection to provide alternative roads for truck drivers and avoid congestion. "Signboards have also been installed to guide the truck drivers to the alternative road."

Only the affected part of the road will be closed down, they noted. "The road is extremely important for truck drivers heading to and from the Dhaid Tool Gate in the direction of Sharjah city and those heading to the Madam and Washah areas."

The maintenance works are meant to boost the performance of the RTA Sharjah road networks in line with the ongoing urban, industrial and commercial expansions.

"Motorists are urged to be careful on the road and take notice of the signboards and speed limits for road users' safety and theirs."

RTA Sharjah has also started the regular maintenance works of the Fifth Intersection on the Sharjah-Dhaid road to boost its performance. "Developments works, which are done from 11:00pm to 5:00am, are to be completed on August 30."

Maurer Modular Bridging System, which is based on German technology, has been used in the ongoing maintenance works. This is a first for the Middle East, the same sources stated.

"This sophisticated technology prevents the complete closure of the road, and significantly reduce the time needed for maintenance by at least 30 per cent."

As per the MMBS technology, solid iron plates, with special specifics, are used in the operation area during daytime.

Urging, the sources said the drivers using the major road are urged to take the second bridge during the maintenance hours. "Feedbacks, complaints, inquiries, and comments are welcome round the clock at the RTA Sharjah Call Centre which is reachable at (600525252)."
