UAE human rights org condemns Turkey wedding bombing


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Emirates Human Rights Association EHRA has vehemently condemned the suicide bombing that resulted in the killing of more than 80 people and dozens of wounded a wedding party in Gazuantap, southern Turkey on borders with Syria on Sunday.

In statement on Tuesday, EHRA said while condemning the terrorist acts on Gaziantap, which claimed tens of innocent lives, who were killed as a result of the message of extremism, hatred and bigotry, it also voiced its extreme concern over the deliberate intentionof the terrorist groups which targeted the civilian gatherings on occasions and celebrations, which showed their ill-will in deliberately killing as many number as possible of innocent victims.

"EHRA, and what the humanitarian is witnessing of the growing danger and the radical thought as well as the rising voice of hatred of the extremist groups, it appeals to all civil society organizations and institutions for human rights and the local human rights organizations in our region to meet to discuss and study their role and responsibilities in confronting the menace, and means of work towards the society in order to create a social incubator that rejects and combat terrorism, extremism and the message of hatred and racism," the statement said.

While expressing solidarity and support to the victims of terrorism and extremism, EHRA reiterates condemning and decrying all forms of terrorism, racism and hatred calls:

1. Civil society and local human rights organizations in the Arab Gulf Region to chart out a local and regional awareness and education strategy to combat the message of extremism, hatred and racism, and work to enlighten and educate the youth to protect and immune them against the dangers of the terrorist groups which target them.

2. Official and private media institutions should bear their responsibility in confronting the scourge of terrorism and hatred by adopting a permanent media strategy, and not a temporarily timing one and based on over-reaction, in identifying the radical thought and how to confront it.

3.The international community should unify its perspective and legislative philosophy and work on criminalizing all the terrorist acts and all forms of bigotry, racial discrimination and incitement of hatred as is the case of UAE experience in work on combating the menace.
