Qatar- 150,000 Sudanese benefit from RAF aid

Doha: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has launched its first relief convey in the Sudan.
The convey aims at supporting about 150,000 Sudanese affected by recent floods following heavy rains in the eastern part of the country.
In collaboration with its partners, RAF sent distributed 10 truckloads of food stuff and other supplies. The floods destroyed about 1,200 homes, health centres, mosques, schools, farms and livestock in 37 villages.
RAF said in a statement yesterday that the relief campaign included distribution of large quantities of meals, flour, food baskets, medicines and medical supplies in the state of Kassala over the past few days.
Field teams established by RAF in collaboration with the authorities delivered tonnes of essential supplies, including tents, mosquito nets, generators, mattresses and blankets. RAF was the first to reach the affected areas in Kassala.
Its initiative was appreciated by the public and officials in the state.
Dr. Al Tayeb Ahmed, RAF Representative in Khartoum, said the campaign was part of a series of initiatives undertaken in different states, in collaboration with Sudanese charity organisations. He said RAF will implement projects to provide the affected people with drinking water tankers and support the health and education sectors.
