(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A clerk, who works at a police station, went on trial on Monday accused of kidnapping and raping a woman after pretending he was a CID officer.
The Court of First Instance was told that the 31-year-old Pakistani intercepted the woman, a Moroccan (whose aged is not cited in the public prosecution records), as she walked outside a restaurant in Al Rigga.
He fooled her into riding in his car after claiming he was a CID officer.
Once inside his car, the man would not leave her. He kidnapped and raped her and dropped her later after stealing her two mobile phones, Dh500 in cash and her watch.
The incident was reported on April 18 to Al Raffa police station. The accused was arrested at around 10 pm the next day in Al Aweer.
The complainant said that she came to Dubai to look for a job and stayed in a hotel in Frij Al Murar. She had just walked out of a fast food outlet in Al Rigga at 8 pm when the defendant who was then driving a 4WD stopped her.
He said he was a police officer and was investigating a jewellery shop robbery carried out by women. "He showed me photos of women's hands and asked to take picture of my hands even though I told him I know nothing about such robbery. He locked the car the moment I got inside and snapped a photo of my left hand".
He did not let her leave the car and told her to keep quiet, and she complied as she believed he was a cop indeed.
He drove to a residential area, where he parked outside a villa.
He made her sit in the back seat of the car where he raped her.
He then drove to the highway where he stopped a cab for her after stealing her cash and other belongings.
"We learned that the accused was the one who kidnapped and raped the complainant based on the descriptions she gave us of him and his car," a police sergeant said.
The defendant became very scared and tense when he was first confronted by the police officers. "He confessed he had sex with her against her will and that he posed as a cop to lure her into riding with him".
The clerk admitted he picked the woman up on the street. "He claimed he drove towards Sheikh Zayed Road upon her request and that he invited her to a restaurant but she declined".
He then went to a shop at a gas station where he bought a few items. "He was caught on CCTV pulling over at a gas station on Al Wasl Road. He then drove to Al Quoz".
The sergeant quoted the accused as admitting that he was driving a car, belonging to the police, on the incident day.
The hearing has been adjourned to September 22.
