UAE- Barbaric attack in Turkey: paper

ABU DHABI, 22nd August, 2016 (WAM) -- A UAE newspaper has said that only a sick and perverted mindset devoid of humane feelings could think of ways to violently turn a happy occasion like a wedding into a scene of tragedy.

"That's what happened in the city of Gaziantep in the Republic of Turkey where a terrorist attack claimed the lives of scores of innocent people, including women and children, and left several others injured," said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Monday.

"Indications that the attacker's age could be between 12 and 14 compounds the worry since it is a signal that heartless militants do not spare even children and implant the toxic seeds of extremist ideology into young minds too.

"This indeed poses a huge challenge to the entire world and not particularly to any single country like Turkey. Economic challenges, political polarisation, Daesh threat and refugees are already among the major issues that Turkey is presently struggling to tackle.

"The year has turned out to be horrific for the country, as it has witnessed many strikes blamed on Kurdish and Daesh militants as well as a botched coup on July 15th.

"Such continuing violence is a matter of grave concern and sends out a clear message that there is a need for intensified and concerted efforts by the international community to ensure the eradication of the serious scourge of terrorism.

"The UAE has rightly called on the international community to stand united and uproot the bane of terrorism. From the beginning, the UAE has held an unambiguous position of rejecting all forms of terrorism and violence.

"As the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation highlighted, there is a need to find radical solutions to eradicate terrorism, which is contrary to all moral and humanitarian values.

"Terrorism constitutes a serious threat to international peace. Terrorists who attempt to provoke the Turkish people by exploiting ethnic and sectarian sensitivities should never ever be allowed to succeed," concluded the Sharjah-based daily.
