Legitimate Yemeni president renews adherence to relevant UN resolutions

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 20 (KUNA) -- The legitimate Yemeni President Abd Rabu Mansour Hadi on Saturday re-affirmed his commitment to the international legitimacy's resolutions for resolving the crisis in his war-torn nation.

According to the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA), President Hadi held talks today with the UN envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed, discussing the UN-sponsored efforts aimed at resolving the conflict, namely obstacles that have resulted in snagging the peace process.

Marathon inter-Yemeni talks, recently hosted by the State of Kuwait, had been deadlocked, with the opposition camp, namely Ansarullah and the party of the ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh, maintaining intransigence and refusing to abide by basic necessities to resolve the strife, namely withdrawal of the opposition gunmen from cities, such as Sanaa, handing over the heavy-caliber guns and re-instating the legitimate government of President Hadi.

During today's talks in Riyadh, President Hadi praised Sheikh Ahmed's efforts aimed at implementing the UN resolution 2216, re-affirming his government's keenness on realizing peace on the basis of the declared references, notably the GCC initiative and the UN resolutions as well as outcome of the national dialogue.

The opposition forces have seized some of Yemen's key cities including Sanaa. Saudi Arabia commands an Arab coalition that has launched a string of air strike on the opposition strongholds and backed pro-Hadi forces on the ground.

A recent declaration of a 10-man ruling council by the opposition has placed new snags on the track for reaching peace. (end) od.rk
