(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has allocated special areas for universities in its Innovation Hall as part of the forthcoming Water, Energy, Technology, and Environment Exhibition (Wetex 2016) to showcase their "role in managing environmental issues and displaying their research papers and innovative projects."

Organised under the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dewa, the exhibition will take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 4 to 6.

"The Innovation Hall (which can accommodate at least 14 universities) will support the foundations of environmental sustainability in line with the National Green Economy for Sustainable Development initiative launched by Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum to build a green economy in the UAE and the UAE Vision 2021 which prioritises sustainability," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dewa and founder and chairman of Wetex.

"We invite UAE and international universities to participate at the Innovation Hall at Wetex to showcase their scientific role in managing environmental issues and displaying their research papers and innovative projects. We are looking forward to the complementary role of universities to contribute in the development of the energy, environment and water sectors," he added.

"The Innovation Hall aims to increase the participation of universities and students and enhance their perspectives and knowledge about the latest updates in energy, water, and environment. Moreover, we are looking forward to their participation in activities, competitions, and seminars presented by sponsors and global companies at the event to highlight the latest innovations and inventions which serve smart cities and ensure a happy life," added Al Tayer.

The Innovation Hall encourages innovation, promotes the best environment-friendly practices and increases the role of sustainable solutions to boost the global competitiveness of the UAE in environmental sustainability. The hall will host discussion panels open to the public to give in-depth insights about major inventions and innovations in traditional and renewable energy, water, environment, oil and gas, and their relevant sectors during the three days of the show. Universities will play an instrumental role in highlighting the latest scientific and research trends in these fields.
