Kuwait- 'Missing gold seals found at airport' - Probe reveals truth

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 19: On May 3, 2016, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, according to an announcement made to the daily at that time relevant to the precious metals sector in the ministry discovered during the process of inventory that four seals used in the marking of gold had gone missing as well as the platinum in the six devices designed to stamp the precious metal, reports Al-Rai daily. On Aug 17, 2016, the seals which had been reported missing turned up at the airport and were reportedly used in stamping the gold which was imported into the country. The Ministry of Commerce has filed two complaints with the Public Prosecution suspicious theft and waste of public money as a result of which the proceedings in the case have begun to find out the truth according to security sources familiar with the issue. However, the truth has emerged after complete investigation and it has become clear that the seals have not been stolen but were in possession of the department affiliated to the Ministry of Commerce at the Kuwait International Airport. According to sources, an official at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has explained the disappearance of the seals and the subsequent filing of the complaints. The sources pointed out that the results of investigation are in the custody of the Public Prosecution including minutes of interrogation with the official who had reported the disappearance of the seals to know the motives for the complaint and if the staff who made the inventory were aware of this fact.
