RAF helps 286 Yemen cancer patients

DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has implemented a health project which lasted six months and provided treatment to 286 blood cancer patients Across Yemen.

The project, implemented in collaboration with RAF partners in Yemen, contributed to saving people";s lives, helping them return to normal life to earn a living to support their families.

Of the patients, 38 percent registered officially at the national centre for the treatment of tumours in Yemen. The project was successful despite obstacles due to the difficult situation in Yemen.

RAF implemented the project following a call by patients as Yemen faced a shortage of medicines. It conducted a survey to determine the number patients and provided medicines. The project was important due to the difficult situation in Yemen, which was worsened also by the high cost of medicines in a country — considered one of the poorest in the world, with the population living on less than $2 a day. The project targeted three age groups — 18 years or less; 18-60; and those above 60.
