Sudanese minister praises UAE for backing her country

KHARTOUM, 16th August 2016 (WAM) --- Sudanese Minister of Welfare and Social Security, Masheir al-Dawallab, has held a meeting with a delegation from Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) led by Suhail Al Qadhi, and comprising Hamad Mohamed Al Jenaibi, Ambassador of the UAE.

She thanked the government and people of the UAE for their initiatives to support Sudan and help people affected by the recent floods.

Sudan has not appealed for international relief because the situation is still under control, she noted.

In a statement to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, the Sudanese minister praised the UAE, its charities and the Emirates Red Crescent in particular for backing Sudan during humanitarian crises.

The UAE ambassador, noted that because bonds between the UAE and Sudan are strong, the humanitarian organisation was quick to send a delegation.

Sudan's Humanitarian Aid Commissioner-General, Ahmed Mohammed Adam, thanked the people and government of the UAE for supporting his country.

Flash flooding triggered by days of torrential rainfall, the highest in 105 years, has claimed the lives of at least 129 people in Sudan. He noted that there a shortage of tents and mattresses, he said.

Head of the Emirates Red Crescent delegation, Suhail Al Qadhi, said that the organisation recognises its huge responsibility towards brothers in Sudan.

The organisation will distribute relief and food aid to people affected by the recent floods, he said, adding that the effort will begin in the Al-Jazira State.
