Kuwait- British court convicts Muslim cleric for supporting IS


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Aug 16 (KUNA) -- Britain's Old Baley Court convicted a radical Muslim missionary Tuesday for supporting the so-called Islamic State (IS) and enticing others to join the terrorist group.

Anjem Choudary, a 49-year-old British citizen, faces up to 10 years in prison, British public prosecution said Tuesday, noting that the controversial cleric will be sentenced in the hearing session next September.

He was found guilty by jurors on July 28th of supporting IS publicly, and urging his followers to support the terrorist group through numerous videos he posted via his social media accounts such Youtube and Facebook.

Since 2014, Choudary has been encouraging young Muslims in Britain to pledge allegiance to IS leader and the so-called "Islamic Caliphate," the prosecution said. (end) mrn.ma
