Morocco- Marrakech to Reduce 60 Percent of Its Energy Costs

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) A Marrakech City Council statement announced an ambitious project to save60 percent of the city's energy cost.

The city of Marrakech is expected not only to overcome its deficiency, but also to save up to 60% of its energy cost through streamlining and quality improvement of public lighting services.

According to the City Council's statement, this project entails a number of benefits related to reducing costs for Marrakech: it will save nearly MAD 50 million on the consumption bill, as well as in the installations, maintenance, and management of the sector.

The project also aims at modernizing the department of public lighting through an advanced check of instant and permanent consumption follow-up.

The project is expected to further develop the city's public lighting sector.

Related measures taken by the Marrakech City Council involve the fact that management of the lighting services will be granted to the local Development Corporation. This decision was approved by the City Council in one of its previous sessions, highlighting that a local company would be in charge of the sector and not a foreign company.

The announcement of this project comes 100 days before the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22) to the UNFCCC (COP 22), which will take place in Marrakech next November.
