DOHA: Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) of Qatar Foundation has been ranked among the top 25 emerging research institutes in the Middle East and West Asia.

It has been named as one of Nature Index 2016 top 25 Research Rising Stars in the region. Debuting at No. 15, HBKU is the first institution from Qatar to be included in the pan-regional list.

Hasnah, President, HBKU, said, 'The interdisciplinary research conducted at HBKU strives to target some of the most pressing challenges faced by the world today, while supporting Qatar";s development, contributing to global scholarship and moving key industries forward. I am pleased that HBKU";s efforts to bolster and champion excellence in research in Qatar have been recognised by Nature Index this year.

'HBKU students, faculty and researchers benefit from the university";s unique research eco-system.

'HBKU";s research eco-system offers up-and-coming researchers exceptional mentorship and a strong network of academics around the world,” he added.

Innovation and cutting-edge research is at the core of HBKU";s colleges and its research institutes in line with Qatar";s National Research Strategy, addressing critical areas of development such as water, energy, and cyber security and healthcare.

It offers research education Master";s and doctoral programmes through its interdisciplinary graduate colleges such as College of Science and Engineering; College of Humanities and Social Sciences; HBKU Law School; College of Public Health; College of Business; and Qatar Faculty of Islamic Studies.

Universities and institutes on the 2016 Rising Stars list are noted for growing their research activities significantly in recent years.
