(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug 14 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Hani al-Mulki on Sunday held talks with his Swedish counterpart Stefan Lofven on ways to cement ties between Jordan and the Scandinavian nation in addition to a host of Middle East issues, namely the Palestinian issue and the Syrian crisis.
Al-Mulki and Lofven emphasized the need to establish stronger bilateral ties, especially in the economic domain and said opportunities exist for forging closer cooperation between the two nations.
They also discussed the Palestinian issue and stressed that the establishment of a viable Palestinian state is a perquisite to bring about peace and stability in the Middle East, warning that the failure to do justice to the Palestinian people will fuel more violence and stability.
Al-Mulki said the two countries are key players in peacemaking efforts across the globe and they demonstrate strong commitment towards the fight against terrorism and extremism. He warned that the current turmoil in the Middle East would impact security and stability in Europe since regional problems know no borders.
The prime minister reiterated that the Palestinian issue remains the crux of the conflict in the region, vowing that Jordan will always embrace this issue as a top national priority. He said any political solution to the Palestinian issue should entail a two-state formula. On the Syrian crisis, Al-Mulki said this crisis brought a massive influx of Syrian refugees to Jordan and this requires more support by the international community to help the Kingdom address burdens arising from this unprecedented inflow of refugees.
The Swedish prime minister said the two countries enjoy good relations and there is an uptick in the two-way trade exchange. He stressed that Jordan remains a key player in efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East and elsewhere in the world. Lofven indicated that his country wants to boost cooperation and coordination with Jordan in hosting refugees, especially as both countries host Syrian refugees. He stressed that the international community must increase aid to host countries.
