Residents dance to the tunes of Bollywood in Capital


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The finest artists from the Hindi film industry enthralled the audience with shows held in the Capital as part of the Indian Independence Day.

Patriotic fervour was in full flow at all the shows.

Singer Shankar Mahadevan said events like 'Bollywood in the Capital' will help promote love and friendship and between the UAE and India.

"This one is for love and friendship between the two countries," he said before crooning songs from "Dil Chahta Hai," a movie that redefined the concept of friendship and attained a cult status.

The trio Shankar Mahadevan, Ehsaan Noorani and Loy Mendonsa entertained the crowd at du Forum in Yas Island on Saturday night.

Mahadevan said they wanted to spread the message of brotherhood and said it was their 'lakshya' or aim.

This was followed by a song from the 2004 war drama film "Lakshya'" Nationalism echoed in the trio's each performance.

Dubai-based group Ragga Factory also performed on the day and left audience asking for more.

On Friday, it was turn of actor-singer Farhan Akhtar and singers Vishal and Shekhar to up the crescendo in du Forum.

The multi-talented singer advised the audience to never take stress or tension and fight each issue.

He boosted their morale with poetry from the movie 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dubara'.

Farhan also urged people to join his campaign Men Against Rape and Discrimination.

The singer was full of beans and completed 100 push-ups leaving the crowd stunned. He dealt a killer blow when he held the microphone close to his chest so that audience could hear his heartbeat. He gave a 'big hug to all' and signed out with 'Shukran Abu Dhabi'.

Later, composers Vishal-Shekhar had the crowd on its feet. They belted out one chart-topper after another and left the audience mesmerised during the Abu Dhabi Summer Season's celebration of the Indian Independence Day.

Also, on Friday Indian comedy king Kapil Sharma surprised the audience by starting with a song at Al Raha Beach Theatre. Sharma said he felt very much in India and has always liked being in Abu Dhabi.

On Thursday, it was the turn of Shantanu Mukherjee 'Shaan'. The Bollywood singer entertained the audience with his top songs.

The audience had their money worth with a super week of fun-filled shows that were held as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
