UAE- RAK Police nab drug dealers after tear gas battle

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In what looked like an action movie, the Ras Al Khaimah Police have managed to arrest six drug dealers after they violently resisted arrest using tear gas.

The suspects, of different nationalities, were finally apprehended red-handed with an unidentified amount of narcotic hashish in their possession, and that later proved to be meant for local trafficking.

The druggies, including three Emirati nationals with criminal records, were staying in the emirates of Sharjah and Ajman, according to Col Adnan Ali Al Zaabi, director of the anti-narcotics department, RAK Police.

"The law enforcement bodies here were alerted about the drug dealers, and hence a security team was formed to track them down and put them under close surveillance."

An anti-narcotic agent had a deal with the gang, and they agreed to meet him at a specific area in the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah where they were later arrested, he added.

"The anti-narcotic men stormed the meeting point, and managed to detain the suspects although they resisted the arrest operation with tear gas and some policemen were hurt."

The druggies were taken in police custody, and admitted to their crime during interrogation. "They also informed the police about other gangsters who were hiding in Sharjah and Ajman."

Armed with the public prosecution's permission, and in coordination with the Sharjah Police and Ajman Police, the gang hideout was busted and all the suspects were arrested.

"The other druggies, including an Emirati national and two Arabs, were stopped with other amounts of hashish and different types of narcotics in their possession and in their hideout accommodation."

The case file was referred to the bodies concerned for legal action as due. "Parents are urged to keep an eye on their children and protect them against narcotics, Col Zaabi underlined. "It is not only the responsibility of law enforcement bodied to curb drugs; it is rather of all members of the society."

Early in July this year, the Ras Al Khaimah Police arrested five drug dealers with 2,036 narcotic pills in their possession. The suspects included a 25-year-old Emirati drug dealer.
