One of Pakistan's young online media celebrities, Imaan Sheikh has made a mark for herself in the world of online journalism and 'everything viral' in recent years - making her one of the most influential people in the social media sphere. Based in Dubai, the trailblazing woman has the distinction of being thefirst Pakistani staffer on the Buzzfeed India team, at the time it was launched. On this Independence Day, Sheikh talks about the resilient people of Pakistan, the 'socially aware youth' and high hopes for the now septuagenarian country. "Dubai is a tapestry of people from all cultures, which really helps us Pakistanis open our eyes and hearts to different communities, and develop a softer image of Pakistanis. There are few countries in Asia where South Asians particularly, such as Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis and Sri Lankans, all get to live and work together and see themselves beyond just borders, and sensationalist, fiery headlines. "I cannot say what is yet to come for Pakistan. I may never have high hopes from the system, but I always do from our people, and I hope we have a safer, more secure future ahead of us." Another young enterprising UAE-based woman, Mehreen Rohan Shoaib, is a fashion designer and make-up artist. Active on social media, she has a large following on Instagram, where she usually shares styling tips and techniques. On this Independence Day, she talks about representing Pakistan as a young woman entrepreneur in the UAE and how Pakistan needs love. "To be representing a part of Pakistan overseas, is an extremely proud feeling and UAE and the Emiratis are generally very welcoming to all Pakistanis. "The Pakistani Community of UAE according to me, is quite vast. I feel we have now made our own niche in UAE. Pakistan needs love. Lots and lots of love! "This Independence day I hope and pray, we learn to value our brotherhood and unite as a nation. I wish Pakistan to be a safer country for everyone." Another young Pakistani expat who has made a name for himself, within four years of moving to the country, is stand up comedian andsocial media starJunaid Akram, who wants Pakistan to curate talent and intellect in the same way as UAE has in order to become a prosperous nation. Talking to Khaleej Times, the Dubai-based Economics graduate spoke highly about the contribution of Pakistanis in UAE's growth since inception.
