Bus driver's topper girl to get pat from Pakistan embassy

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Daughter of a bus driver who topped in BBA would be among three persons to be recognised by Pakistan Embassy on the nation's 70th Independence Day.

Fatima Al Rayssi would get a "Certificate of Appreciation" for scoring a highest GPA in her BBA (Management) degree from the Emirates College of Technology in Abu Dhabi.

Her two compatriots who would receive 'Certificate of Integrity, and Honesty', includes Mobin ul Haq from Sharjah, who returned Dh113,000 that slipped out of the back pocket of an Iraqi jeweller in his car; and Abu Dhabi's Rahim Ullah whoreturned Dh15,000 and important documents, picture IDs, bank cards of an employee of Pakistan embassy, in Ramadan, this year.

Charge d' Affaires Dr Faisal Ahmed would award the certificates at the Independence Day event on Sunday.

The story of 23-year-old young girl could interest many film-makers.

Afterchallenges and odds, a young girl born to an ordinary working class family achieved what she wanted to, and now leading a happy life.

Born and brought up in Abu Dhabi's remote small town of Bida Zayed, Fatima proved that determination and commitment can win over all hurdles.

She proved her interest in management sciences, when she scored a GPA of 3.99 out of 4 for her BBA degree in May this year.

But, for attaining higher education, a daughter of a bus driver, who ferries school children in Bida Zayed for the past 40 years, had full support and blessings of everyone around her.

From day one at school, she was an achiever and go-getter. She always scored top marks all through her 12-years at the Asian International School, an Indian curriculum and the only school for expatriate population in the Western region's small town.

Her outstanding abilities, learning skills and top grades, led her to join the Emirates College of Technology to realise her dreams of higher education.

For a bus driver, who had three other college and school going children to support, it was a difficult decision to allow her to for it.

As luck was on her side, Fatima was hired by Daman insurance for junior retail sales staff in her town soon after she passed her 12 grade in 2012.

She got a real break in coming few months when she got admission to the four-years degree programme.

Committed to acquiring a degree in business management, she would attend office from Sunday-Thursday and move to Abu Dhabi on Thursday evening to attend lectures on Friday and Saturday from morning till evening.

Seeing her passion and ambition, her family friend and godfather Major General Dr Ahmed Nasser Al Rayssi, a top law enforcement officer, who had supported her ambition and zeal for education, allowed her to stay at his house in Abu Dhabi city so that she could focus on her education.

Fatima would give tuitions to pay her fees and to support her two younger siblings, who like her, also did well in education.

Despite all odds, she succeeded in realising her first important milestone-a business administration degree in management in May this year.

And in all these struggling days, in a typical filmy twist happened to her, when she got a marriage proposal from a national during peak of her studies.

"A friend of my older brother...he (Humaid Al Rayssi) asked for my hand through Al Raisi's family," she says shyly. She got married in 2014.

At work, she told; "I got two promotions first after my marriage and the latest one after passing out in flying colours."

Now, Fatima who got her education on a 40 per cent paid scholarship for her bachelors programme, is preparing to apply for a full scholarship to study abroad for a master degree.

Fatima's father, who came to Abu Dhabi some 45-years ago, could not take his children back home due to financial worries. He spent whatever he had on their education.

However, Fatima finally visited her home country for the first time, this year when her husband took her to Lahore for a family event.

Handling VIPs clients for her insurance firm in Abu Dhabi, the young achiever gives all credits to her parents, teachers and Al Rayssi family for what she is today.
