Qatar- Kanaad fishing banned for two months from tomorrow

DOHA: The Fisheries Resources Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment has announced a temporary annual ban on catching kanaad (a species of kingfish).

The ban is for two months from tomorrow until October 15.

The ministry said it aims at protecting the stocks of kingfish, preserving the country";s marine wealth and complying with the GCC Agricultural Committee";s unified decision to ban on fishing kanaad.

Catching kingfish by using a net is prohibited, along with the handling and transportation of nets.

The ministry said in a statement that catching kingfish is allowed only by hooks and hand line.

It also pointed out that the temporary ban has achieved a good results in the first year of its implementing last year and saved and preserved stocks of kingfish.
