UAE- Tragic details revealed in case of son killing father

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Sharjah Sharia Court yesterday heard the key witness testimony in the case of the Sudanese American who killed his father in November last year. The witness is none other than the victim's brother and the accused's uncle.

Tragic details surrounding the incident came to light during the hearing.

The 18-year-old accused's uncle told the court that on entering his brother's office, he found his nephew kneeling next to and kissing his father, who was lying in a pool of blood. He says the boy tried to give him a fire extinguisher, saying, "Please beat my father with this, like I did."

The uncle stated he had received a call from a relative who said his brother was sick, and rushed to the latter's residence building, only to see him lying bloodied with injuries to his head and eyes. He told the court that his nephew was known to have a psychiatric problem and had been under treatment. This was corroborated by a police official, who said they noticed the boy behaving strangely when the police arrived at the crime scene.

The uncle also told the court that he was shocked at the incident, because the father and son had had a loving relationship, and he could not guess why the boy would murder his father.

A gruesome patricide

The murder occurred on November 14, 2015, around 1 am, at the victim's office in Al Qasimia. He was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital afterwards, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police investigations showed that the accused, who was living in the US, was brought back to the UAE by his father because of his mental illness. The father then proceeded to treat him at the hands of a faith healer from Sudan, and also kept his son's passport.

The faith healer finally left after telling the man that his son was much better.

Unfortunately, the crime transpired that very night. After dropping off the healer, the father-son duo entered the former's office, located in the same building as their home. Before the father could switch on the lights, the accused allegedly hit him on the head with a fire extinguisher.

During interrogation, the son told the police that a jinn had ordered him to kill his father. The 'jinn' apparently promised to

retrieve his passport and travel back with him to the US. The accused also claimed he was not aware of what he had done, and that all he could remember was the jinn ordering him to kill his father. He also said that he was a worshipper of Satan.

Kept confined in an isolated cell at Al Gharb police station, the boy had been displaying signs and behaviour consistent with mentall illness.The case has been adjourned to September 6.
