Hospital Fire Kills 11 Newborn Babies in Iraq

(MENAFN- Morocco World News) At least 11 newborn babies killed in fire in Baghdad hospital

At least 11 newborn babies have been reportedly killed in a fire that broke out at a hospital in Baghdad, Iraqi officials have claimed on Wednesday.

The babies who were prematurely-born died after the flames erupted overnight at the Yarmouk maternity hospital, the health ministry reported in a statement.

Ahmed all-Roudaini, a ministry spokesman, told the Associated Press that the blaze was most likely due to an electrical fault in the system, something which the AP describes as very common to occur in Iraq because of poor maintenance and wiring.

The department said that 29 women and 7 children were rescued and transferred to another hospital.
