Erdogan flies to Russia to renew relations

(MENAFN)Official report said that Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The meeting, which is expected to pave the way for restoring bilateral cooperation, is their first encounter since Ankara downed one of Moscow's warplanes last November, which sparked a diplomatic crisis.

Erdogan"s day trip to St Petersburg on Tuesday will also be his first foreign visit since the failed coup in Turkey last month and an ensuing, vicious crackdown that has strained relations between Ankara and its western allies.

Putin may see an opportunity to rekindle the Russia-Turkey relationship after ErdoÄŸan last week accused the west and the US in particular, of supporting terrorism in Turkey.
