UAE- Inhuman killings will never help matters: paper

ABU DHABI, 9th August, 2016 (WAM) -- A UAE newspaper has said that gunpowder has never been able to answer the needs of political campaigners. Yet outfits which target people in the name of their brand of politics don't seem to understand that, that their cussedness will never, ever, help them to realise their goals.

"The hideous suicide attack on a gathering of lawyers in the grounds of a hospital in Quetta shows that Pakistan, like many other countries, remains vulnerable to inhuman killings and the above groups will go on," said The Gulf Today in an editorial on Tuesday.

A suicide bomber killed nearly a hundred people and wounded scores more in the attack. A Taliban faction has claimed responsibility. Nearly 100 lawyers had come to the hospital in the heart of Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, to express their grief after the body of their colleague, prominent attorney Bilal Kasi, was taken there. Kasi was shot and killed by gunmen earlier on Monday as he was on his way to his office.

Sanaullah Zehri, Chief Minister of Balochistan province, said that both the bombing and Kasi's slaying seemed to be part of a plot to disrupt peace in the provincial capital.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the blast and pledged to do more. The government has been successful in some parts of the country in checking violence, but their goal remains far from over.

The editorial concludes by saying that the Quetta bombing clearly shows that despite attempts to weed it out, the Taliban threat still remains. "Clearly, work needs to be done to ensure a safe environment for the masses to live and work in. And that has laudably been the priority of the Pakistani government and has indeed gained the confidence of the people, who need harmony even before food."
