(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Defense Minister Khaled Al-Obaidi escaped a bid on his life in the north of the country on Monday, the defense ministry said.
The motorcade of Al-Obaidi, who was inspecting forces in Nineveh with senior officers, was sprayed with bullets and mortar shells, the ministry added in a statement.
The guards retaliated at the source of fire, it said. No one in the motorcade was harmed. (end) ahh.bs
