Kuwait- Sudanese opposition approve roadmap for peace

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) KHARTOUM, Aug 8 (KUNA) -- The "Sudan Call" coalition of the Sudanese political and armed opposition forces and civil society organizations singed in Addis Ababa on Monday an African Union (AU) brokered roadmap for ending the conflict in the country. The signatories are the National Umma Party (NUP), Sudan People's Liberation Movement - North (SPLM-N), Minni Minnawi wing of the Sudanese Liberation Movement (SLM), and Gibril Ibrahim wing of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM). The Sudanese government approved the deal in last March.

The plan aims to put an end to hostilities; implement the security arrangements in the western Darfur region, the Blue Nile and South Kurdufan; start a national dialogue on political transition, and deliver aid to people trapped in the conflict. Representatives of the Sudanese government and the opposition are scheduled to open the 13th round of the peace talks in Addis Ababa on Tuesday.

The negotiations are expected to tackle such issues as the ways to implement the roadmap and convince the opposition parties that have yet to join the deal to do so without further delay.

Meanwhile, member of the government negotiating team Hussein Karshoum welcomed the signing of the roadmap by the opposition parties as a crucial step for opening a stage of peace.

"The signing will encourage other opposition parties to engage in the national dialogue initiated by President Omar Al-Bashir," he added.

The Sudan Call coalition was formed in December, 2014, in Addis Ababa with a view to ending the civil war and achieving democratic transition in the country. (end) hha.gb
