Jordan- Queen Rania Center provides 250 scholarships for Syrian refugees


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Irbid, Aug. 8 (Petra) -- Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service at Yarmouk University Monday started receiving requests for Vocational Diploma Training Programs provided for Syrian refugees in Jordan.

According to center's director, Haitham Bani Salameh, around 250 scholarships are provided by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the Syrian Refugees in line with the conditions agreed upon between the two sides.

Only Syrians that are registered with and hold UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) number can apply for the scholarship, he explained.

"The program aims to prepare, qualify and train the Syrians refugees to enable them enter the labor market and contribute to reduce unemployment and raise their professional skills and social levels.

Diploma program covers a broad scope of fields of studies that include Hotels and Health Services Management, Medical Secretarial Records, Food and Nutrition Management, and Hotel and Restaurant Management, Tourism and Aviation, Computerized Accounting, Graphic Design and others, he explained.

Queen Rania Center for Jordanian Studies and Community Service was established on August 28, 2006 following merger of formerly Jordanian Studies Center with Consultations and Community Service Center. It was named after her Majesty Queen Rania in recognition of her role in supporting issues of interest for Jordanian people.

The center seeks to provide quality training, consultations, and research services to local community members, regional customers in different fields. It offers a variety of programs and activities ranging from two-year diploma degrees and one-year programs that include courses and workshops in the various fields of interest.
