(MENAFN - KNN India) Textile Minister Smriti Irani";s ‘I wear Handloom"; campaign in twitter has gained immense popularity within four days of being launched for which the Minister is being appreciated by the seniors in the party, famous media personalities, film fraternity and sportspersons.

Ever since the Minister kick-started the campaign by posting her selfie in handwoven silk saree from Bihar and appealed people to post their selfies and tag 5 people, the micro blogging site was flooded with selfies from political biggies to common man to television stars, fashion designers and all.

In a tweet, Irani thanked External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi for extending their support to the campaign.

'Glad to receive support from SushmaSwaraj Ji and MinistryWCD for #IWearHandloom,” she wrote.

Union MSME Minister Kalraj Mishra appreciated the new textile minister for such a participative initiative and at the same time congratulated her for the grand success of the campaign.

'Khadi or handloom not only enhance ur personality but give you satisfaction too as indirectly you do your bit for artisans,” he wrote.

Irani";s stint as a textile minister has got her appreciation from many other senior leaders and officials too like Piyush Goyal, Amitabh Kant, J P Nadda, Kiran Bedi, Jayant Sinha, Devendra Fadnavis, Vasundhara Raje and more.

'#IWearHandloom - a great initiative by TexMinIndia to support Indian hndloom sector,” Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal wrote.

#Sports icons like Virender Sehwag and boxer Vijender Singh too joined the campaign.

'Wearing Handloom makes u feel free & gives livelihood to our weavers Handloom pehno, ekdum Free Ho jaao!,” Sehwag wrote.

'Wonderful initiative smritiirani ji #IWearHandloom because it's one of the best representation of our culture,” the renowned boxer said.

Among others were the superstars like Kangana Ranaut, supermodels like Milind Soman, fashion designers like Anita Dongre, Manish Malhotra and chefs like Kunal Kapur who appreciated the initiative.

Not only this, her twitter account was flooded with selfies of thousands of people from across #India showcasing the rich diversity that the country has in handloom sector.

Ahead on the National Handloom Day on August 7, Irani has come out with a comprehensive social media campaign, the theme of which has been titled as 'Selfie-with-Handloom', with posts on social networking sites Twitter and Facebook.

The campaign would encourage people of the country to click a selfie wearing one or the other handloom-made article and post it online on social networking sites.

In a series of tweet, Irani said, 'Textile sector in #India attracts 230mn FDI in 2015-16.”

'Indian handlooms symbolise India's heritage & culture. Wear it to carry on our rich tradition and support 43 lakh weavers & their families,” she wrote. (KNN Bureau)
