UAE takes part in Arab meeting on migration in Cairo

CAIRO, 2nd August, 2016 (WAM) The UAE is participating in the extraordinary Arab meeting on migration, which began today at the headquarters of the secretariat general of the Arab League, to prepare for the high-level meeting on how to deal with large movements of refugees and migrants.

The UAE is represented at the two-day long meetings by Rashid Al Shamsi, director of foreign aid at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The meetings are co-chaired by Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, and Karen Abu Zeid, the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations.

In his speech during the opening of the conference, Aboul Gheit warned of serious repercussions of the displaced persons and refugees in light of the unfolding and unprecedented conditions experienced by a number of Arab countries, including Syria, Libya, Yemen and Iraq.

Aboul Gheit called on Arab countries to participate with the highest level in the United Nations General Assembly meetings next September as well as in the summit hosted by the United States, along with five other countries, led by the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in New York on 20th September with regard to the global asylum crisis.
