Egypt- Vodafone customers use 29.7m minutes, 804m messages over 3 months


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) The financial statement of Vodafone, the parent company of Vodafone Egypt, showed an increase in the number of the voice service minutes used by its customers in the Egyptian market. The customers used approximately 2m more minutes in the first quarter of fiscal year (FY) 2016/2017, which ended on 30 June, than the fourth quarter of FY 2015/2016, which ended on 31 March.

According to the company's financial statement, customers of Vodafone Egypt used a total of 29.7m minutes in April, May, and June, compared to 27.9m minutes in January, February, and March. Egypt ranked third among the markets of Africa and the Middle East region in terms of the number of minutes used, following India and Turkey.

The company's financial statement showed that the rate of text message usage declined in the Egyptian market during the mentioned period. This declined from 821m messages in the fourth quarter of FY 2015/2016 to 804m messages in the first quarter of FY 2016/2017.

On the other hand, the financial statement showed an increase in the rate of mobile internet use via Vodafone Egypt networks. The size of the data used increased from 28,100 terabytes in the last quarter of FY 2015/2016 to 32,040 terabytes in the first quarter of FY 2016/2017. However, the Egyptian market ranked last in terms of data usage among Vodafone's markets in Africa and the Middle East region. Egypt followed India, which used 91,400 terabytes, Turkey, which used 78,400 terabytes, and South Africa, which used 37,900 terabytes.

Vodafone Egypt achieved an 11.2% growth in its revenues in the fourth quarter of FY 2015/2016. According to the data of the parent company, Vodafone, the revenues of Vodafone Egypt's data service increased by 37%, supported by the 40% mobile market share the company obtains in Egypt. According to the company's financial statement, Vodafone Egypt experienced the most growth among the markets of the Middle East and Europe.

Vodafone Egypt's revenues amounted to 390m in the fourth quarter of FY 2015/2016, while the total revenues of the company in the second half of FY 2015/2016 amounted to approximately 816m. Profits before taxes amounted to 337m, a net profit of 168m.
