Khalifa University unveils new Micro Electro Mechanical Systems Lab

ABU DHABI, 2nd August, 2016 (WAM) The Khalifa University, KU, today announced that it has built a state-of-the-art Micro Electro Mechanical Systems, MEMS, laboratory at its Abu Dhabi campus, aimed at assisting in research in the area of BioMEMS (miniaturisation science used to solve chemical and biological problems with an emphasis on molecular biology and energy).

The new laboratory consists of a clean room and the machines and raw materials required for the development of miniaturised devices using micro-fabrication processes. This includes micro-devices for biological applications, micro-sensors and micro-actuators.

Dr. Arif Sultan Al Hammadi, KU's Executive Vice President, said, "The university has established a number of key advanced laboratories and research centres, which include Khalifa Semiconductor Research Centre, KSRC, Visual Signal Analysis and Processing Centre, VSAP, and others. These research facilities are supporting the UAE's efforts in advancing key sectors through innovation and research, in a way that benefits the country and its economy."
