Barzani receives US assurances to support Peshmerga
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) IRBIL, Aug 1 (KUNA) -- President of Iraqi Kurdistan region Masoud Barzani met Monday a US delegation headed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford who expressed US support for the Peshmerga troops in their battle against the so-called Islamic State (IS).
Barzani and the US delegation shared details about the Mosul operations and the US plan to destroy IS in Iraq and Syria.
The Kurdish president also praised the relations between the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and the US-led coalition.
The US delegation thanked and appreciated President Barzani's leadership in the fight against IS and the great achievements thus far.
President Barzani also held talks with Arab tribal leader and discussed the future of Mosul, which has been seized by IS since summer of 2014. The Kurdish president said that Mosul operations without the Peshmerga forces are impossible. (end) sbr.ss
