Football: Al Ain offer rope, Ibrahim Diaky grabs it

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) In a 360-degree volte-face to their initial plans, Al Ain have offered midfielder Ibrahim Diaky a contract extension. And the player has agreed to a new deal and will soon join Al Ain's ongoing training camp in Austria.

Head coach Zlatko Dalic has 'welcomed back' his midfielder.

Confirming the move, club team manager Matar Al Sahbani said in a tweet: "Al Ain management has reached an agreement with Diaky to extend his contract, which expired at the end of last season. The player showed a desire to continue at Al Ain."

There is no further clarification as to why a player who didn't figure in Al Ain's future scheme of things till last week has suddenly impressed the coach to merit a contract renewal.

The 'Boss' had on June 21 released Diaky and he had joined Al Jazira training camp. Both the Abu Dhabi clubs, however, didn't confirm a deal was struck. Diaky had joined Al Ain from Al Jazira in 2013.

The midfielder from Ivory Coast was once a mainstay at Al Ain but towards the end of 2015-16 season was left out cold. Dalic was always pestered with queries as to why Diaky wasn't given much time out in the middle. His last match was in the President's Cup final as a substitute and he had almost scored the winner.

No. 18 Diaky is among the most experienced players at the club and will add value to the Abu Dhabi club as they chase Asian Continental glory.
