Kuwait- 'About 40 new diabetes cases detected among kids annually' - Nod to check on Iranian schools textbooks

KUWAIT CITY, June 12: Chairperson of Endocrine Gland Union, consultant at pediatric section of the Sabah Hospital Dr Zaydan Al-Mazidi affirmed that the rate of clients visiting the endocrine gland section has reduced by 75 percent since the start of the month of Ramadan compared to normal days. He attributed the change to differences in working hours and patients concentrating on their fast. In a statement, Dr Al-Mazidi revealed that the hospital records 40 new cases of diabetes annually among 100,000 children below 15 years old, and 4 cases of hypothalamic among 1,000 children in Kuwait, whereas only 3 percent of children worldwide suffer from brachymorphic and 3 children out of a thousand live with hormonal disorder. Meanwhile, Dr Al-Mazidi announced the endocrine gland summit is slated for Oct 9-10, 2016, and eight doctors and specialists from Britain, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Jordan and Kuwait will be participating in the activities. In relation to the summit organized by Kuwait Doctors Association titled 'long-term treatment forhormonal disorder', several issues will be discussed concerning ways of treating brachymorphic from childhood until maturity, and also after maturity, besides several topics related to diabetes, insulin pump, stem cells and modern apparatus of treating diabetes among other chronic diseases. CSC nods censor: The Civil Service Commission has given nod to a request from the Ministry of Education to create a position of 'Censor for publications at Iranian schools', reports Al-Rai daily. Assistant Undersecretary for Administrative Affairs and Development at the Ministry of Education Fahd Al-Ghais said the task of the censor is to review the approximately 25,000 textbooks printed in Persian and distributed at the Iranian schools each academic year. Al-Ghais explained there is a dire need to review these textbooks comprising religious, historic, educational and cultural specializations that come to these schools in large quantities throughout the year. He added there is also a need to review the CDs, videos and teaching material so as to ensure compliance with the educational standards and the follow- up and supervision of the Iranian schools during the scholastic years.
