Kabul, Shawwal 26, 1437, July 31, 2016, SPA -- Afghan forces managed to retake control of a district
in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province late on Saturday,
officials said, according to dpa.
Afghan army commandos and regular units reached the Khanishin district centre on Saturday after the Taliban had taken control and successfully pushed them back, a Defence Ministry spokesman said Sunday.
"The district is now clean and 18 Taliban militants and one Afghan soldier were killed in the operation," the spokesman said.
The Taliban launched an attack on the Khanshin district of Helmand province on Friday night seizing the district's centre.
The news was confirmed by Mir Ahmad Khan, a provincial council member in Helmand.
Earlier Taliban attacks in Khanshin district were repelled twice in recent months.
