Dhofar Automotive recently conducted their annual Technical Training Contest for service technicians working with Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA) brands.

The Technical Training Contest, is an annual programme of Dhofar Automotive and was instituted with the vision to keep technicians up-to-date on the technical features of models, in-depth diagnostics and other service procedures as well as to recognise and motivate them to excel further in their jobs.

After a preliminary theoretical knockout round across the sultanate, 15 finalists were selected to compete in this year's programme.

The technicians went through a comprehensive series of tests that included a written theory test, mechanical component examination test, diagnostic tool test and, finally, a full diagnostic procedure test.

After completing the written test, technicians were put through the paces, testing their ability to examine and explain faults on individual components, diagnosing fault codes, identifying cause of failure and providing suggested corrective action. Judges monitored and marked the results during the contest, with moderators from Dhofar Automotive concluding the final score.

The final awards ceremony for the Technical Training Contest saw the distribution of certificates to all the service technicians. The top three technicians of the year, Sashidhara Acharya (first place), Albert Guijo (second place) and Sukesh Shetty (third place) received trophies from Chris Edwards, general manager, Dhofar Automotive.

Roderick Lloyd, national after-sales manager, Dhofar Automotive, said, 'Our technicians are known for providing an elite level of customer service and exemplifying what the FCA brand represents. Through the Technical Training Contest, each year, we aim to reward technicians who maintain and repair vehicles in a quick and efficient manner and also recognise them for their proficiency in areas including training and diagnostic capability.'

He added, 'As the demand for trained service technicians across our network continues to grow, we are stepping up to create training programmes that are specific to their needs. Training our staff for success in the workforce is our top priority and the Technical Training Contest helps provide our service technicians with the credentials they need to hit the ground running at Dhofar Automotive, one of the region's best FCA dealerships.

'It is noteworthy that our technicians are the superstars of the service lane, and a big part of what keeps customers coming back to Dhofar Automotive. We thank them and the entire after-sales department for nurturing a fantastic work environment in which technicians thrive year-on-year, ultimately delivering excellence in customer service.'

Fiat Chrysler brands have set global benchmarks in areas of engineering and design. Oman is a growing and important market for the group.
