59 stalls display various products at sixth Omani honey expo

The sixth Omani honey products exhibition organised by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries (MoAF) concluded at Muscat Grand Mall on Saturday.

The event which was declared open by H E Dr Fuad bin Jaafar bin Mohammed al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries on Wednesday, sought to popularise local honey in the country.

The exhibition with 59 stalls showcased various types of natural honey, such as Sidr and Al Samar.

It also aimed to provide an opportunity for communication between honey producers and citizens and residents in the sultanate, in addition to promoting different varieties of honey.

H E Dr Sajwani stated that the honey production had witnessed a significant growth in the sultanate with the number of apiarists standing at 4,500 and production reaching 500 tonnes. There are 100,000 apiaries spread across various governorates as well.

H E Dr Sajwani also pointed out that there is great potential for expansion of production, marketing and delivery of honey to other countries. Three small and medium enterprises specialised in the sale of beekeeping equipment and breeding also took part in the exhibition.
