Mansour bin Mohammed attends closing ceremony of Jubilee Games

DUBAI, 29th July, 2016 (WAM) H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai International Marine Club, attended the closing ceremony of the 2016 Jubilee Games at the Dubai World Trade Centre on Friday.

The event showcased breathtaking state-of-the-art performances filled with vibrant colours, sights and sounds. The games started on July 22.

Sheikh Mansour said, ''Dubai has become a global destination for hosting major international sports championships around the year thanks to the city's cutting edge infrastructure, state-of-the-art sports facilities, and smart services, as well as safety and security.'' Sheikh Mansour honoured 19 athletes who competed in 19 games. As many as 2020 gold, silver and bronze medals were offered to winners. Canada harvested the largest number of medals with 60, including 20 golds. Pakistan came second with 42 medals, of which 17 were gold.

Organised by the Ismaili Muslim community in association with the Dubai Sports Council, the event, the emirate's first intra-community global sports tournament, attracted over 2,000 athletes and over 10,000 spectators from more than 25 countries.

Saeed Mohamed Harib, Secretary-General of Dubai Sports Council said, "The closing ceremony signalled the success of the strategic partnership between Dubai Sports Council and Jubilee Games and the council's vision to create a unique sports community that enables the young generation to develop their skills and build a cultural and sports character.''
