US growth short of forecasts in second quarter at 1.2%

(MENAFN- AFP) The US economy grew at a modest 1.2 percent in the second quarter of this year, falling well below analysts' expectations of 2.6 percent, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

Growth in the first quarter of 2016 was also revised downward, from 1.1 percent to 0.8 percent, reflecting lower results from exports and residential fixed investment -- which includes money spent on homes and made from selling them.
